Hungarian sabre with silver mounts and Hungarian blade
Late 18th century Ottoman or southern regional work with Ottoman influence, using a captured or purchased blade.
Blade: 18th century, etched and engraved over approx. 15 cm on both sides. Decorated with spread-winged eagles, Hungarian warriors, anthropomorphic crescent, and “Eisenhauer” quality mark. Also inscribed “vincere aut mori Hungaria” (“to conquer or to die for Hungary”) and maker’s mark “M&C”. High-quality steel blade.
Hilt: Horn grip of onion form typical of the period. Backstrap engraving matching the scabbard decoration. Straight crossguard with spear-point terminals and central rosette.
Scabbard: Wooden core covered in textured leather, fitted with silver mounts engraved with rosettes, with saddle-back termination and spiral-bordered bands, sewn with silver wire. Unmarked silver.
Condition: Excellent, with minor dents and small damages to the silver mounts.
