Biography: Miklós Pethes, kechkéméthi. Rank: hussar colonel. (Jászárokszállás, July 5, 1887 – Budapest, August 21, 1963). Father: Antal Pethes, landowner. Religion: Roman Catholic. He began active military service on August 18, 1908, after graduating from the Ludovika Military Academy. Before and during World War I he served in the 8th Honvéd Hussar Regiment. Between August 12–21, 1914, he took part in cavalry charges and troop movements in the Gorodok (Russia) area. At the horse race held in Gyula on September 7–8, 1924, he achieved 3rd place in the “Jeu de barre” (command-executed contest) category with his horse named “Bánatos” (a typical skill-based display game often performed by hussars for public entertainment). In 1927, as a major, he commanded the hussar squadron of the 1st Mixed Brigade in Cegléd. From late 1927 he served as acting commander of the 3/II Hussar Division. He was promoted to colonel on November 1, 1937. From April 1, 1940, he served at the 62nd Replacement Command in Balassagyarmat, previously as horse registry officer at the military command in Rétság. On December 1, 1940, he was transferred to a similar position at the 22nd Replacement Command in Nyíregyháza. During his service he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit.
